So there is more in my life than running, I also make time to support charities by getting my uncoordinated bum to do Zumba for 2 and a half hour session. This was such a lovely well organised event. It had quite a good turnout for Pietermaritzburg standards, some tend to be a less supportive bunch (not everyone 🙂 )
The cause was for the sunflower fund, they are a non-profit organisation that fights blood diseases like leukaemia through the recruitment of stem cell donors. They raise funds to cover the cost to help raise awareness and educate on how you can make a difference. So if you feel you want to be more involved with this cause head over to their page to see how you can be involved.
Doing it with dance I feel was a great, as it creates awareness in the sense of you can move, while patients who need your cells are unable too. This was really a fun way to spend a Saturday morning. Registration was only R60 but this got you a small goodie bag and water. Plus they had a whole lot of prizes that they gave away on the day. I think everyone that attended walked away for a lucky draw prize, way more than the value they spent on participating.
The nine licensed instructors came from various areas including Howick. The dances varied from very complicated, that made feel slightly more focused not to fall over my own feet, to super easy where I could let my inner dance freak look slightly more coordinated. The time literally flew by, I did not notice that 2 hours of booty shaking passed till the last prize giving.
They had ladies from all different ages and fitness levels which made it really fun for everyone. Most ladies did an effort to dress up which added to the festive feeling. Well done too my two gal pals that walked away with best dressed, you always make a special effort so it was well deserved.
Next time you see a Facebook ad or advertising for a charity fund raising event, go! It is a fun way to involve yourself in the community and help with a great cause while you are at it. Keep an eye out on your local listings not too miss out.
